The back is the most common area of the body to experience pain, and most of us will feel it at some point. Lower back pain can come from a sudden injury, from years of poor posture, or from natural age-related changes in the spine. Whatever the cause, our aim is to understand your particular problem and give you a clear path forward.

When you visit our Concord clinic we carry out an assessment to try to establish the source of your pain. For most people we can put together a management plan quickly. Treatment options include gentle spinal mobilisation, where we use a hands-on approach to ease a tight or stiff spine, along with soft tissue release and targeted exercises to improve your strength, posture and flexibility. We also share practical prevention strategies such as ergonomic and posture advice to help keep the pain from returning.

Some people have lived with back pain for a long time and have found that hands-on treatment alone has not lasted. If that sounds like you, an advanced core program may help. Run at our clinic by Physiofit Rehabilitation, these programs use specific exercises to improve your posture, spinal strength and control. They do ask for a commitment, usually at least 30 minutes of exercise a day at home, because that training is what helps change your spinal fitness. Programs can be done individually or, as a more affordable option, in a 10 week once-a-week group.

What to expect

We begin with an assessment to find the likely cause of your pain and rule out anything that needs further attention. You will usually receive some hands-on treatment and a home exercise plan on your first visit. We then review your progress and adjust the plan, including whether a core program might help.

Who it is for

Suitable for anyone with new or ongoing lower back pain, whether from a recent strain, posture or age-related change. It is especially helpful if past treatments have only given short-term relief.
