Neck pain is extremely common and can affect daily life in a big way, from turning to check the traffic to simply sitting at a desk. Like other spinal pain, it often comes from injury, posture or natural age-related change. The good news is that a careful assessment can usually pinpoint what is driving your pain and guide an effective plan.
When you come to our Concord clinic, we assess your neck to try to establish the cause of your symptoms. For most people a management plan can be set out quickly. Treatment may include gentle spinal mobilisation, a hands-on technique to ease a tight or stiff neck, along with soft tissue release and exercises to improve your strength, posture and flexibility. We also offer practical prevention advice, such as how to set up your workspace and reduce the strain that everyday habits place on your neck.
For those who have had neck pain for a long time and found hands-on treatment has not lasted, an advanced core program may help. Run by Physiofit Rehabilitation at our clinic, these programs use specific exercises to improve posture, strength and control. They involve a genuine commitment, generally at least 30 minutes of home exercise a day, because that consistency is what changes your results. Programs can be done individually or in a more cost-effective 10 week, once-a-week group.
Your visit starts with an assessment to find the likely source of your neck pain. We explain what we find and usually provide some initial treatment plus exercises to do at home. We then review and progress your plan, discussing whether a core program could add value.
